Video tutorial: How to create a Ring Binder
A small, personal ring binder is the perfect storage for postcards and mail art. I so love mine, made from vintage Reader’s Digest books. The covers are all different, totally adorable, green patterns. Love!
Today I found the video files of when my dad helped me put this project together. So I edited it, added some fun music and uploaded it for your enjoyment. It’s Friday after all, so a movie is perfect, right?
Here is the video:
How to create Your Own Ring Binder
I hope you like this quick tutorial on how we created a fancy handmade ring binder for postcard storage, using a pretty vintage book cover.
I think these are perfect for storing all my postcards, most of them received in the DIY Postcard Swap of course – a swap that you can sign up for right now if you want to start building a collection of pretty handmade postcards… You could also use this kind of binder as a DIY Calendar you know… DIY Postcards and Calendar pages – these are two of my favorite projects! Maybe that is why I like these binders so much.

The blind rivets, also known as pop rivets, are those metal bolts with a head on one end, that you insert and cut off with a riveter (called popnitar in Swedish). The book covers were bought years ago at a flea market. I found the ring binder mechanism at an office store here in Sweden. I don’t know where you can buy these things, but I do suggest searching the internet or the hardware store where you live… And as for muscle power, it’s my dad, and he is a keeper.
I have a handy page where I’ve collected all my tutorials that you can check out. I posted about my Postcard Ring Binders two years ago, but I guess editing the video slipped my mind – until now. Let me know if you make one!
Wonderful idea, Hanna, and beautiful video! Thanks for sharing with us! I especially enjoy the times I’m able to craft with my daddy, too! Can’t wait to see what postcards appear in my mailbox a few weeks from now to add to my postcard swap collection! (And I loved your use of the Star Wars cantina song! So much fun to whistle along with your video!)
Thanks Arielle, I really love working with the video format and will try to do more this spring and summer. And what, the song is from Star Wars? I had no idea, but I am with you on whistling along, that’s what I did the whole day when I made the video. :-)
VERY cool! 2 thumbs up for the idea-your dad’s help-AND your nail color :)
Thanks Jenny!
One of my best ways to cheer myself up is to paint my nails in happy colors, turquoise is a favorite. :-)
you make it look so easy! Great storage idea! {:-Deb
This is so clever! I don’t have these tools, but they look like they might be worth the investment. There is so much I could do with ring binders like these!
