Tiny wooly kittens

I know my stuff is a niche market. It’s limited edition, and off beat.
It does not suit everyone, but it suits me. *

The Gang all together of Wooly cat softies made by Hanna Andersson

It has been a while since I created any new characters, but as I made these I remembered how much I love making softies. I love thinking up an idea and drawing it as a pattern. Then test sewing the fabric or felt together to see if it will work. Will my idea form a three dimensional item that will “feel right”? I’m going for cute and heartfelt this time…

Then after stuffing each cat softie, and closing the side, it’s time to add a face. It is when you add the eyes that the character is born and comes to life I think. It is almost surreal when it happens.

You feel like you ought to say hi to the new personality that is now sitting in your hands.

Cat softies 1 to 3, made from old wool sweaters by yours truly.

All these tiny kittens are siblings and close friends, but they are ready to move out and already spreading into the world. I actually sent one off in the mail this morning.

They’re all made out of a hand dyed wool sweater that I felted in the washing machine. Recycled wool is one of my favorite materials to work with. Natural and very environmental friendly, soft but sturdy. And perfect for forming soft ornaments / softies with!

Cat softies 4 to 6, made from old wool sweaters by yours truly.

I’ve added a bow around each of their necks for decoration and then hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Also added a ribbon hank to hang them from, as decoration or ornaments of some kind. They would look equally good in a Christmas tree as dangles on your everyday bag.

This whole gang of tiny wooly cat softies are now rooming around in my Etsy Shop. I so hope you like kittens, but who doesn’t right?

  1. So lovely! :)
I noticed you’ve already sold one of them, probably my favourite!
    Great!

Recently I accidentaly felted a sweater (gosh! -____-) and saved for future projects: I was thinking to bags or pencil cases, but now that I’ve seen your little cats I want to make softies, too! Probably tiny bears :)
    Love softies making!

  2. I love the simple shape and how captivating the little faces. You are so right about putting eyes on any softie – you DO want to say “well – hello there – nice to meet you” – ha! I usually do! Nice to know i am not crazy after all!!!

Now that you have dipped back into softie making, I bet we are going to see more! Addicting!

  3. Theses are sooooo adorable, Hanna! :-D
It’s funny that you are talking about making more plushies, because I’ve been thinking of doing the same, as well. I just need to get that sewing machine working, again. :-p
Much hugs to you during this busy holiday season! xox!

  4. Crazy cat lady? I mean, all those kitties running around your house……. (snicker)
