I think it’s a great idea to keep a notebook with your favorite quotations in! I’ve collected them for ever but just recently dedicated a special book for them; a tiny spiral bound book that I’ve made!

My own quote book

The cover is a rosy wallpaper (recycled) that I just had a very small piece off. The inside is blank pages that eventually will be filled with my favorite quotes. I especially find good ones on other peoples blogs right now or in magazine articles. I keep this book close to the computer, because even though I’ve tried to keep a digital file of quotes I forget to print it all the time. Book quotes are often a bit too long to fit into this small book so sometime I write them down in my diary. I only jot down quotes that means something to me, quotes that speak to me and that I want to read and re-read several times. Often they are about habits, creativity, happiness, change or growth.

Here are a few examples how my book look inside:

Would you like to have a similar book of your own? You can take any small notebook and make a little label for it that says “My Quotes” and glue it to the cover. I’ve made several for friends I know like words and writing. Or if you don’t have a book you can use one that I’ve made!

I’ve added three small spiral bound books to my Etsy shop. Check them out!

These are so cute! I used to have such small notebook for the quotes but it wasn’t handmade.

I have a book of quotes - I used to collect them - once upon a time. I like the idea of “color and design” to the blank pages… I used to keep quotes in a lined book (not so much fun to be free in a book with lines - but I didn’t know better at that time).

What a great idea! I have a computer file, too, but that’s so impersonal and cold for pages of wisdom. These are beautiful.

If you like, you can find great quotes at http://www.artquotes.net. Beliefnet.com also sends out regular e-mails with great quotes, if you subscribe, and Real Simple magazine’s web site offers a Thought of the Day e-mail with fantastic quotes.

One of the most recent Beliefnet quotes from my files:

“If the average person realized the power he wields over his life and destiny, he would live in a perpetual state of wonder and thanksgiving.” — Earl Nightingale

What a lovely idea! It could become a great tool for cheering yourself up if you are feeling down, or inspiring yourself if you’re feeling defeated.

I am a big fan of this and have a little book of quotes myself; pretty handmade paper for wise words. You did a lovely job with your books.

i have quote book too. But can you believe it that I was sure that I’m the only one at my age writing down quotes and using my own hand for that? :)
Lately I’m hooked on “City of angels” so my fav quote is from there, when Seth talks about Maggie:
“I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One.”

Definitely love this idea. I’m obsessed with bookmaking! You’re making me want to grab my stuff now… but I can’t - musn’t - not right now anyway. Too many things to do!

Anyway, I’m so loving your blog right now. Am definitely off to subscribe.

    Glad I found you!

I’ve been stalling for a looong time on starting a journal. I’ve been so inspired by all that I see but was so STUCK. Last night I grabbed the book and pushed the voices down and sat at my computer and wrote all the quotes I found on blogs that inspired me! I later went back and played with the letters, embellished a little and I did NOT want to stop! So this is very timely for me….if anyone out there is STUCK and WANTS TO DO IT…start with quotes!
I love your blog and I’ve been lurking for a while now! Thanks so much for your wonderful inspiration. I truly look forward to your posts!

  18. […] It’s pretty papers, right? In a roll you get plenty and it’s often über cheap, or free. What I like to do with mine are for example: 1. Make pretty envelopes 2. Paint on top of them, to personalizing your projects even more 3. Use them in my collages and art journals 4. Make mini notebooks with the scraps 5. Wrap tin cans for storing pens in 6. Make new art journals […]
