Brayer Adventures with Acrylic Paint
I’m on roll right now, every since I bought myself a brayer!
Have you ever visited Tammy’s blog Daisy Yellow? It’s about Art Journaling and if you’re into that stuff you’ll not leave in a haste from her blog. It’s one of my favorites to visit. Tammy is a very generous person. I’ve been discussing my latest reading adventures with her lately.
Tammy also does the most vivid and fun journal pages, digs up journal inspiration on flickr and inspires me lots. She writes great tutorials on her blog Daisy Yellow. She gives great advice on creating fun and interesting backgrounds with her brayer, so I’ve got to blame her for buying one. I went to Kreatima in Stockholm and bought myself a brayer (roller) and some other art candy. It’s one of those rubber ones, meant for block printing. But I’m just going to roll with it…
If you want to have some fun with a brayer, you should absolutely visit her tutorials:
Psycledelic batik cardstock, Bubbled Brayer Backgrounds and Plaid background! Have fun, you can tell I did.
My own psychedelic batik cardstock. Excess stripes from making a journal with watercolor papers. Perfect as “cardstock” to roll all over.
Paint on a plastic lid, a brayer full of green and a happy girl behind the wheel.
Bubble wrap + gesso + brayer.
Next I need to experiment with roller stamps…

i have a few tools from my old days that i have always loved…one is my palette knife and the other is my brayer (we’re talking old, like high school which was 30 yrs ago – yikes!)….i’ve lost many things over the years in various moves but my art tools are more precious to me than jewels…
i love your artist candy popping out of the little brown bag, i ask you, is there anything better than a visit to the art store and coming home with new toys?? i think not….

oh wow! great post and great links, thank you so much:) I bought a soft brayer recently to use just for rolling out the bubbles in collage papers, but I’ve been using a pampered chef rolling pin thingy for awhile now (with my paints) I’m going to check out those tutorials now

Yes, I love Daisy Yellow too. I think I probably discovered it through your blog or at least an indirect link from your blog perhaps. One of the things that I love about her blog is the excellent cross-referencing she does with previous posts.

Hanna! I love what you are doing with the brayer. I might have to own three. I have one for rubber stamping. I have another one for flattening out bubbles when adhering paper to journals. Now, I think I need a brayer for painting. ;)

Thanks for the referral to Tammy’s blog–beautiful knows beautiful! I love my brayer for doing gelatin monoprinting with acrylics, but I wish I’d bought a wider one. Oh, well–just an excuse to go out and add one more tool to my kit.
