Say it with collage | 365 collages week 41

If you are scrolling past you might miss it. The subtle hints, the hidden gems. If you are rushing to get to “the end” you won’t hear a thing of what is said, at least that is what I think.

I think you can say a lot with collage, but it will only reach those open enough to listen, those that have learned to stand in silence in front of a painting or artwork and ponder it for a while. Those that stop walking and take it in. It is for those of us that enjoy the little things in life, that see the beauty in garbage assembled or in crumbled up papers. It is for those of us that enjoy listening to the birds, that wants to understand what’s beneath the surface, that does not get scared away by complicated or hard.

Collage can teach us a lot too. To slow down, to appreciate unexpected juxtapositions, to let our eyes wander over the art piece in silence and just breath. To appreciate paper scraps! To embrace the chaos of the material, and the calmness of a finished piece. To really look. To not contradict, but to try to understand.

Also, if we can stay away from judging any of it as “good” or “bad”, that is a win too.

Anyone who says you can’t see a thought simply doesn’t know art.

What art offers is space – a certain breathing room for the spirit.

  3. This was so nice to read today, iHanna. You are so right that it’s important to slow down and let the art speak. As always, your titles are so perfect for each piece.

    • Thanks Michelle. I don’t think the internet is the easiest place to slow down at and to enjoy art in, but I appreciate anyone that tries to do it. :)
