267. Celebrate the small wins

I am attempting to create a whooping three-hundred and sixty-five collage artworks on paper this year. I think that is about 345 or so more than I did the year before (at least) and I am a bit behind again. The year-end is getting closer, so I will try to get to my collage table every day this week. I needed speed and progress, so this batch of seven collages as well as the following two blog posts of collages are going to be quick wins. Scrappy collages.

Art made from bits of paper in my scrap inbox. Not rushed, don’t worry. I don’t think you can rush creating art anyway, but a bit of a deadline is a good thing for any artist. These were made without hesitation or overthinking, and I need that as well. I think that’s a good thing. Stick and plonk, then move on.

And “scrappy” is a style I always love, both when it comes to quilting, collage or fashion I guess. A bit of everything, things that don’t “go together” according to most people. But you know what? Most people only wear beige and brown matching clothes and live in white rooms without colors. Most people doom scroll these days instead of making art. They seam to play never. I am not aiming to please “most people” in a crowd with my art, this blog or my being.

I aim to please my own senses, and anyone smart enough (hah!) to appreciate what I create, right? Right.

I hope that I send out all my warmth and love into the world with these colorful collages and time-consuming blog posts. I hope you feel it, and if it hits home with you or anyone else, I’ll be so grateful. I’ll celebrate the small wins, any day.

Maybe you feel like a 365 project is out of your reach, impossible for you to take on, but I say give it a try, think again. If I can do it, I think anyone can do it. If you really make up your mind that it’s something you want to do. Ultimately, the year is long but life is short… ;-) So start planning now.

Life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those who are travelling the dark journey with us. Oh be swift to love, make haste to be kind.

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

About this project: I am making one collage for each day of the year in 2025 and blogging seven at a time each week here. I have created 365 artworks in a year thrice before so I am hopeful that I can do it again. I’d love to know which of these you like best – and why you like it. Thanks for helping me finish this by cheering me on. I appreciate you being here.

  1. Loving your collages. What a great goal for 2025! Hope you have something cool up your sleeve for 2026!

  2. I love your attitude about making art for yourself and enjoying it. I haven’t done so well with my 365 somethings project, and I lost track of what I was even doing. I did great for half the year, and I have a nice collection of postcards that I can mail out whenever needed. So, I’m still calling it a win.

  3. Loving your collages. I enjoy doing them myself but do tend to flit from one technique to another so don’t do as much as you plan to do but look forward to seeing how you get on with it x Angela x

  4. Hanna, these are so fun! My favorites are the Eiffel Tower one (Paris is still number one on my bucket list) and the one with the race cars!
I know you can get your 365 done, but don’t stress yourself if not -because you have provided joy to everyone who has seen even one of all these collages. Thanks for sharing!
