Ceramic Cat Collages | Week 31 2025
From an article about vintage ceramic cats I cut out seven different cat figurine images to use in my collagework. I love the juxtaposition of using scraps from my stash and images of other art forms or artist’s expressions. It feels like a collaboration with them but also like a commentary or celebration of other artists greateness. Maybe even like a conversation, unknown to them (and maybe only audible to me?) where I get to express myself to/through their art. It’s hard to explain, but I really hope that if any of the artists whose work I include (if they were still alive) would feel honoured by my inclusions, not annoyed or anything like that.

The first three cat figurines are by world known Swedish ceramic artist Lisa Larson, who is still much loved and collected in Sweden.

The next two collages features blue cats designed by designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi Italy from 1959. I didn’t know about him and these cats before, but I think they’re delightful. The series is called the Rimini Blue series, and each ceramic cats is playful and really funny. I totally understand why you’d want to collect the entire series (which does not only include cats but elephants, lions, plates & vases too, all in blue).

My last two collages have little chunky black kittens with green faces. They’re designed by Göran Andersson for Upsala-Ekeby, a Swede born 1935 that died way too young.

This blog post contains seven freshly made ceramic cat collage artworks made by me this summer as I continue creating in my series “365 collages in 2025”. I hope you liked them.
Thank you so much for clicking over, taking a look and leaving me a comment below telling me which of these collages you like best – and why you like it. Wishing you a happy caturday. Take care.
Please also check out week 31 2013 and week 31 2018 (only the best).
About this project: I am making one collage for each day of the year in 2025 and blogging seven at a time each week here. I have created 365 artworks in a year thrice before so I am hopeful that I can do it again. I’d love to know which of these you like best – and why you like it. Thanks for helping me finish this by cheering me on. I appreciate you being here.
