Berry many bird collages again | Collage week 32

We like bird collages, right? Right. So happy that you’d say that because I am making a LOT of collages and many have birds on them. This time: berry many! Berry, you ask? Berry!

My glasses and a bird collage.

One evening as I could not stop listening to the audio book I was reading at the time (which was the wonderful Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah, partly about a woman doing research on bird’s nesting habits) I sat in the sofa with a bunch of book pages and cut out birds and other animals. Fussy cutting out images is time-consuming but calming when you have the time to do it without rush. I have lots of this kind of older book pages but rarely take the time to sit with them for a longer period of time, but now that I have started I really want to continue. If I don’t use the images at once I’ll just add them to a folder of fussy cut critters for later collage work.

When I had a pile of birds ready, I simply made “backgrounds” for them to live on and glued them down. Most of these seven collages have a piece from a magazine pattern for cross stitching on it, featuring different garden berries. Hence: berry many birds!

The cross stitch patterns came from another clear-out I recently did. They were in plastic sleeves in a ring binder from when I was about 16 years old and had an intense period of passion with cross-stitching. I found the ring-binder at my mom’s house, took it home and emptied it out. Sold a few patterns but mostly it was magazine patterns that I had saved “for later”, so I put most of those in the paper recycling but also, cut up some for collages. It’s good to save papers when you’re a collage artists.

I continue creating in my series “365 collages in 2025” and hope that you are enjoying the art and the blog posts, still.

Please also check out week 32 2013 and week 32 2018 (Catching the Ladybug).

About this project: I am making one collage for each day of the year in 2025 and blogging seven at a time each week here. I have created 365 artworks in a year thrice before so I am hopeful that I can do it again. I’d love to know which of these you like best – and why you like it. Thanks for helping me finish this by cheering me on. I appreciate you being here.

  1. I just saw where you would like to know which one we like the best. I like #225 the best because I am drawn to the background papers–the colors, variety, and layout. I also like the smaller piece of cross stitch pattern, opposed to the larger pieces in the other collages. But I love them all. I’m a fan of birds too. 🙂

    • Thanks Terry, I really appreciate the input. It makes me go back and look again with new eyes, and sometimes that’s exactly what I need. Take care.
