Back to birds | Collage week 11

Be like the bird who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath wings.

— Victor Hugo

Things with wings are magic so today all my collages feature a winged little friend.

71. Spotted crake (In Swedish this bird is a Småfläckig sumphöna)

This blog post contains collage number 71 to 77 made this year, as I continue creating in my series “365 collages in 2025”. I hope you like ’em.

Beyond birds I decided to use some of my many scraps of wrapping papers and colorful, pretty papers. I don’t know why I shy away from making these backgrounds all the time because they’re simply fabulous and they make me so happy.

Red, turquoise, purple, pink, roses, stripes, painted text blocks, polka dots, gold paint, origami papers, all of it. It gives me life!

72. Dumb as a goose, also seen in the anatomy of a collage.

Dumb as a goose is a direct translation of a Swedish saying, Dum som en gås, often directed at “silly women” that look or act confused, in a contemptuously way.

About this project: I am making one collage for each day of the year in 2025 and blogging seven at a time each week here. I have created 365 artworks in a year thrice before so I am hopeful that I can do it again. Feel free to also check out week 11 2013 (typography edition) and week 11 2018 (where Bambi came to visit…) – and leave me a comment if you find a new favorites along the way. I’d love to know which of these you like best – and why you like it. Thanks for helping me finish this by cheering me on. I appreciate you being here.

  1. I love birds, so your bird collages delight me! As usual, your titles are perfect. I love “it’s going swimmingly” and “moving to Canada.” And “It’s a big loon”. And all of them. I can’t choose! They’re all wonderful!
