Spotted Photo Theme April: So very Yellow
April might be the cruelest month, but also it’s sweet in many ways, little yellow flowers pop out of the ground and the sun shows me that my windows are in need of cleaning (thanks sun!). Real spring springs around here. April this year is also brightly, zesty yellow, because our “spotted photo theme” this month is: yellow. Simple as that. I am sharing a few yellow photos from my secret or not so secret archive of photography through the years. I hope you will do the same. Share two photos that has a lot of yellow – or go crazy and share 25 photos in the same blog post, because why not…
We find from experience that yellow excites a warm and agreeable impression…. The eye is gladdened, the heart expanded and cheered, a glow seems at once to breathe toward us.
– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I am a fan of yellow, a big fan. My favorite hoodie is yellow (I am wearing it right now) as is one of my flower pots. And of course, my favorite glue stick comes in a yellow container. And when life gives you lemons…

Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun.
― Pablo Picasso
If you were to ask me to pull out one of my artworks that were purple, dark blue, orange or mostly white, I think I’d draw a blank. But if you ask for a yellow piece of mine, I have several. Here’s a tiny one from years ago:

I have made so many artist trading cards over the years, both textile and collage, but now it’s been quite a while since I made a new one. If you haven’t tried creating an artist trading card I recommend you to play with this size – it’s really fun to make little pieces of art, trade it, and be inspired by other’s ATC:s. If you want to create textile ATC:s for the first time, take my workshop Stitch with heart, where we (among other things) give bead embroidery a try!

If you want to create paper ATC:s my advice is: just go for it! I have shared many ATCs on the blog if you want to look for inspiration from me.
Back then I was also doing a lot of free-form crocheting. I mostly made little softies, and loved experimenting with yarn to get different shaped animals to make new lill’ friends. I once made a super cute duck using an actual pattern for example, but this little yellow monkey I made up as I went along:

Yellow is not an in-between color, you’re either all in or you’re not.

When I started this blog, many years ago, I was back in school again and learning about literature and layout. One time we were writing about the printing process and visited a local printer. I snapped this photo of a huge printing press that was printing one color at a time:

My mom’s fabric shelf is impressive. I don’t have a blog post dedicated to its magnificent color range (which feels like an error on my part) but let me just share this yellow part with you today:

A few years later I scored a yellow Moleskine in a local book shop, and loved it. I used it as my diary, so by now it is archived and forgotten, but I wrote a whole blog post about the history behind this special edition notebook:

Yummy, right?
How can you not feel sunshiny, joyous and smile when you see this bright, happy color? It is radiating! Ha. And it can be found everywhere in nature, both during the flowering season of spring and summer but also during our autumns, when the leaves turn yellow.

How lovely yellow is! It stands for the sun.
– Vincent Van Gogh

Lastly, this beautiful spring sight that I love spotting around here, when it explodes:

Oh, I wanted to point you toward some older blog posts as well today, featuring a lot of yellow. Exactly ten years ago: Easter Eye Candy, a fun (Swedish) way to decorate your Easter Tree and some more creativity in snapshots (Easter edition as well). I am a little surprised at how often I have shared yellow in a blog post title or as its content, but not sad about it. How about a quick post about this yellow flower in my art journal, a yellow fruit sallad, a bouquet of beautiful yellow tulips as well as post where I create in my Rainbow Glue Book to create a yellow page (video process).
What is your thoughts about yellow, and how does it make you feel? What’s a favorite yellow piece of clothing or thing in your home, if you have one?
Wishing you all the best, cheers from Sweden

Wow, beautiful pictures! I love the monkey boy and your mom’s fabric the most, because of the meaning, but all of the pictures are stunning.
I posted my yellow photos (lots of them) yesterday.
Thank you, I enjoyed yours as well. Yellow really is a color more common than you’d think, huh?
I love that quote about yellow, and I’m all in on loving that color. It’s so cheerful! I love your sunny stitches and your monkey! What a delightful, happy post this was!
Thanks, glad it was joyfull. I picked a few quotes about the colour yellow because I love words as well as photography.
Wow, that really is a happy sunny colour, what great photos and such a joy!
Thanks Alexandra, hope you have a lovely weekend.
What a happy post.
I am particularly draw to the close up of the sun flower.
And the first image is just so artistic. Once again you have captured that light perfectly. I can feel the atmosphere when looking at it.
As I just mentioned in my blogpost I am not a huge yellow fan. So I can’t tell you about my gavotte item at home because I have none. Besides the lemon in the freezer. And a few books so I guess those are my favorites.
However, I do love to see the yellow pops of color in nature after winter. The crocuses, the forsythia, the daffodils… It does expand your heart.
Thank you for hosting this challenge. I really really enjoy it.
Nothing spells sunshine like yellow! Happy spring hanna!
