Art Journal Prep: a color explosion on the page

As a birthday present for you, since April is the big birthday month around here – I shared a Free Mixed Media Worskhop here on the blog (as well as announcing the spring swap that you can sign up to right now). The workshop idea is all about how to prepare an altered book to use as an Art Journal. It contains four videos, which felt like a lot. So, I am sharing a few photos of the prepped pages today instead of adding them in to that big post and making that page even longer.

I love how these still unfinished pages (WIP) look, so I thought I’d share them because they inspire me. Hopefully they’ll inspire you as well. Enjoy.

BTW: It’s not a April joke, I promise. The workshop video series is indeed free and you can learn lots by watching it. In the videos I demonstrate how I work intuitively and create these started pages. In my videos I tend to talk a lot, so I don’t have a lot to say today really.

Happy creating!

All of our days are numbered; we cannot afford to be idle. To act on a bad idea is better than to not act at all because the worth of the idea never becomes apparent until you do it. Sometimes this idea can be the smallest thing in the world, a little flame that you hunch over and cup with your hand and pray will not be extinguished by all the storm that howls about it. If you can hold on to that flame great things can be constructed around it that are massive and powerful and world changing – all held up by the tinniest of ideas.

If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.

A favorite color combination from this painting and prepping session.

And a very green page, because green is yummy:

I hope you found these spreads inspirational and that they make you want to go back, watch the videos and start experimenting with paint, collage and layers. Spring has sprung, all is well. Tis’ time.

  1. Hanna, these pages are so gorgeous and colorful, and I definitely feel inspired! I will watch your videos – I always enjoy your videos!

  2. My favorite is the pink one especially it seems to have more to explore.
I just checked the dates of the swap. I thought the sign up is already past but I just realized I still could. However I am not sure I can make ten cards in the next week. I’ll have to ponder this for a day and leave the tab open.
