Repeating the motif over and over again | Collages from 2022 [6]
Collages from 2022, when I attempted to create 365 collages but got to about +50 of them (even though I have made three successful 365 projects before that). This is part six and I’m sharing seven collages today.
If you’ve been with my through my previous successful 365 collage projects you might recognize some of these images, as I had a few copies left from 2013 or 2018 and used those here. This woman’s face for example, is a black and white copy that I’ve used before (as well as the owl illustration below):

I really like this idea of repeating an image in several different ways and with new backgrounds, so I hope I can find new favorites this year to do this with. What do you think? Is that a good idea or do you think it makes the art less fresh and interesting?

Included some of my own doodles here as well. And a magazine page that is spray painted, illustrations cut from books, pretty wrapping papers and scrapbook paper bits. All is game in my world.

Painted, lined papers in new compositions and ways:

In this one I also used the fabric spine of a gutted book:

Personally I love all of these collages a lot, but this for some reason, might be my favorite right now:

I love how all those colors came together to look like they were meant to be together, so I guess that’s why I like it. And that the bird illustration was a cut-of from a book project that did now all of a sudden got roped in without being meant as a focal image. I love all the planning and thinking that goes into a collage, but also when it comes together in a more haphazard way!
Should I keep repeating the motif idea, or keep looking for new and fresh?
Thanks for being here, leaving me a comment perhaps. Take care and stay creative.
This is part 6 of 8 in my 2022 series of collages that I scanned and decided to share.
Part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 – shared earlier.

I think the repeats are good. It gives the eye something to focus on while I’m enjoying what is placed around it. Owl always love you is my favorite.
I like playing with one or two elements that repeat when working in a series as it lends a sense of continuity to what could otherwise be completely random (which is also fine but those repeating elements help keep me grounded).
I love these pieces so much. After all these years, you still inspire me!
I like blank spaces a lot. And the first one is great too.
