Of to a flying start | Collage Week 2 of 2025
Aaaand we’re of to a flying start, aren’t we? Just kidding, we’re not. Or rather we’re of like a baby bird crash-landing upon the rocks at first flight*, floating away for ever in peaceful ignorant bliss… maybe.
It’s already week 5 of the year and I only just managed to get started with making collages and sharing them too. In fact it wasn’t until week 3 that I even made my first collage of the year – and as I’ve already told you, it impossibly stupid to get started at all, in general, so overall I am happy to share another 365 post today. Happy to have found something I enjoy doing and get to share it with you guys.
Even if the start was slow and painful (to me) I will persevere (a bit longer) and share week 2 of the yearlong collage project. There are seven more finished collages today. If you have ever tried to create something on a time schedule that you want to feel worthy of showing to anyone / calling art / not be embarrassed by, you know how hard that is!

In this batch of seven new collages, I’ve been experimenting a bit.
Experimenting with paper bits and letting my vintage canvas show through in places.
Experimenting with sharing what’s in my heart, being vulnerable and daring.
Hoping that you’re not a swiftie and will spot what music I was listening to when naming these collages…

I am drinking a cup of tea right now, as I am writing this, and thinking of how long all this took to create. I made labels for the backs of these collages so I can number and title them properly. Scanned them high-res and then added watermarks to upload. Ouch, that took hours. But:
If (when) I get whiny or feel sad for myself, please remind me that I am doing this for myself. I do it because I love paper scraps, cut and paste, bit of torn magazine images, book illustrations, patterned paper, the square format, creating little vignettes/pieces of color collaged together. Love it! Just remind me of that, please.

Man must rise above the Earth — to the top of the atmosphere and beyond — for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.

Thanks for leaving me a comment with your favorite collage of the seven that I shared here today – and what it is about that one that you like.
About this project: I am making one collage for each day of the year in 2025 and blogging seven at a time each week here. I have made that many artworks in a year twice before so I am hopeful that I can do it again. Please also check out week 2 of 2013 and week 2 of 2018 – and leave me a comment if you find a new favorites along the way. I’d love to know which of these you like best – and why you like it. Thanks for helping me finish this by cheering me on. I appreciate you being here.

Hi Hanna, I know the feeling, trying to get started and having to work extra hard to “prime the pump.” Also having life’s necessary chores interrupting the creative flow. I think my favorite is “Downstream of Consciousness”. I like the combination of many structured little tiles opposite the soft winding path that leads to some unknown place. And of course I’m drinking tea this morning and wondering how to get creative, too. I also like “Go Easy on Me” – the orange polka dots taking all the attention from the pink and yellow ones even though the pinks occupy a much bigger space. Keep going, girl!
Downstream is my favorite. The stream connecting the cup and tea pot and all that can happen between made me stop and study it.
well done! I completely understand the struggle with getting started! Same for me. My favorite of this batch is No. 13. I love how that glass just peeks out.
These are wonderful, Hanna! I’m really enjoying the titles as well. Let’s see….my favorite is Please Put Here because it’s extra fun with the words of warning from the post office. And then there’s the drawing of (maybe?) a heart, but it looks like something humorously dangerous.
Loving seeing your collages! My favourite is the first, I think, though it’s a hard decision!
Hi Hanna – it’s interesting how blogging and sharing your work can be both a great motivation and a way of feeling bad cos you don’t feel like you’ve got anything to share! For me I sometimes need to remember it’s the PROCESS that’s important and how I feel when I do that. I do love sharing my projects on my blog both as a record for me and hopefully as a way to inspire others on the way but that is secondary. I don’t know whether any of that is encouraging or helpful to you but you definitely inspire me with your continuing creativity ♥
As always fun to look at. My favorite: Of to a flying start
