Our bunny Luna Lapin as a true fashionista

As soon as any Luna bunny gets her head sewn straight on, she decides that she is a bit of a fashionista. If you have ever created one, you know what I mean. I blame the original book, that has patterns for her body as well as all kind of clothes: shoes, bags, knickers, dresses… You name it. To sew it all would be lunacy. I would not recommend even trying, but it’s hard to resist your Luna’s call for clothes. But yes, at least try to avoid showing these pictures to your own Luna Lapin doll.

But if you enjoy sewing, I am sure you will want to create a few items. Personally I have finished only one dress so far. It doesn’t even look like the one in the book, and Luna was like “Meh, fine!” when I gave it to her. Then I tried to free-style a summer dress (fabric photo below) but I think my mom had to finish it for her Luna (I gave it away unfinished). But I digress. This post is about Luna Lapin’s fashionista tendencies. Or maybe… about mom’s crafting. My mom’s passion for crafting en masse that is.

My mom’s favorite color is blue, so it’s not too strange that these bunny twin sisters got blue eyes and blue dresses:

Being an artist is enough because being an artist is EVERYTHING. It’s the most human thing that you could do.

Their knickers, or undergarments if you will, are sticking out under the dress and it looks very cute as they end with a lace ruffle. It adds that last detail to the outfit, don’t you agree?

Do we have a Luna Lapin sized doll house at our disposal, for fun impromptu photo sesssions like this? Sadly no, I’m afraid. To snap these photos of the twins I brought out a big wallpaper sampler book. I got it for free from the paint shop, and I will use the papers to make journals with some day. It just happened that the example photo in it was big enough to feature the bunnies, and that one of the wallpapers in it had a very cute bunny pattern!

Shoes (or socks) had not yet been fashioned this day, but one of the bunny sisters, let’s call her Elfrida, wanted to show of her new turquoise coat, so we went outside for a bit.

Elfrida wanted to say “hej” (hi in Swedish) and show of her coat of course. Can you blame her? It’s so darn cute. Look at those details, and the button holes, and the cute white miniature buttons. I can’t even. So cute.

I was all happy and done with sewing for a while, until I came across this piece of embroidered, lacy fabric in my stash. It is from a table cloth I think, that I thrifted of course. Looking at it I couldn’t stop seeing it as a dress, not for a human gigant like myself, but for a bunny girl perhaps? Genius, right? Maybe not…

This is how it started, I don’t know what I was thinking really. A gathered skirt (or dress) of some sort I guess. Stay tuned to learn what it became in a later post!

Because before you go, my Luna Lapin (the best of them all), the nose-less green-eyed beauty that she is, wanted to show of the pink pyjamas pants and shirt that her granny-bunny (my mom) made for her (after some nagging I think):

Pink and green. Not only Luna’s favorite combination, but mine as well.

Luna Lapin is a homebody, just like me. She’s been in her pyjamas every day since she got it I think. She insisted on being photographed in it, of course.

Also, she did style herself, so you can not blame me for how she looks. A hair bow in her “hair”, the knitted shawl over her shoulders (although it wasn’t even cold that day) and a bracelet turned necklace, just to make it even weirder. Okay Luna, what ever.

Behind the scene of our photo shoot. Our beloved, but stubborn, Luna Lapin in pink pajama made by my mom.

After photographing and all the fuss about finding jewelry, she started to yawn really big so I just put her to bed. After all, she was already dressed for it.

Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite.

PS: I will return with more Lunacy on Monday, tomorrow is another day of something random, me thinks.

  1. Wow, your are both amazing seamstresses but your mum is next level with that beautiful coat. Stunning details and work. These are crazy good.

  2. This is so amazing!
My son recently had to be fitted for a costume for the show that he is in and it is amazing how the drapers and first hands can take a shirt that is two sizes too big and pin and tuck and create a seam and make the shirt perfect. They also couldn’t cut the shirt because it was a rental from another opera company so anything they did to the shirt had to be able to be undone. The whole process was like watching a surgeon work.

    • Thank you, agreed. Sewing clothes is not for the faint of heart, especially not small ones. I have tried and I have made simple things but I’ll never be a tailor for sure. I am not that detail oriented I think.

How cool that your son was in a show, I love that. Did he enjoy the experience?

  3. Dear iHanna, I LOVE this post so much! (Warning: there will be a lot of exclamation points in this comment.) The Luna lapin dolls are so adorable, and all the clothes are wonderful! I’m squealing over THE TURQUOISE COAT! ❤️❤️❤️ I love it so much! I want one for myself! I love how you used the wallpaper book as the backdrop for your photos. I can’t wait to see what the embroidered cloth becomes. Thank you for this lovely post, which brightened my day!
PS I mailed all of my postcards for the swap today.

    • Aw, thank you Michelle! I was talking about writing longer, informative blog posts when I mentioned the exclamation points as superfluous – not commenting. In commenting and emails why not, I say, that’s where they are a help to express your enthusiasm which you did beautifully. Thank you.

  4. I don’t sew, but these are ADORABLE. I would buy one for a niece if I saw it in the store.

  5. Super clever to use a wallpaper sample book as your photoshoot backdrop! And of course those papers will flow into many groovy collages. This Luna post is 🏆 100% deluxe cuteness, by the way!

  6. Oh these are cute. I am in awe with the cat. What a master piece. So did you manage to do that or is it your mom’s work?
I could never sew these tiny things. How did you even think of that gathered skirt?!

    • Hmm, cat? You mean the bunny I think? I made one of them, the one with green ears. :-) I’m not sure how I came up with the gathered skirt, but look at that piece of cloth… I think it was meant to be.

    • Thank you. Luna Lapin bunnies are indeed very cute, and I’m pleased with mine. And her outfit, even though it does not look like the one in the book/pattern, haha.
