To feel like an artist, you need to make art. Often and a lot. That is how you become an artist. iHanna

This is one of my favorite art pieces – one that I feel very proud of. I love how textured it is, and how I used all my favorite colors and marks in it.

I made it in a series that was born in 2015. I am going to look for it in one of the many archive boxes I have, to maybe frame it and hang it on my wall. Right now I don’t have any art pieces of my own up on the wall, and I was reminded recently of how important it is to frame, hang and enjoy your own art from time to time.

And to make art of course, if you have the urge to be an artist.

Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art. Andy Warhol

It is really important to exercise your creative mind by doing (creating!) things if you want to keep creating, and it is equally important to create “art” (what ever you think is your art-form) regularly if you want to feel like an artist. And if you feel like an artist, you are an artist. It is that simple.

This is something I have known for many years now, and a lesson I think is very important to all creatives.

Write and you’ll be a writer. Paint and you’ll be a painter. Create collages and you’ll be a collage artist – but only if you yourself believe it too, at least in the moment.

Start a blog and you’ll be a blogger but of course, only if you keep doing it. When you stop writing blog posts you’ll be an ex-blogger!

What art school does is give you time to explore different techniques and ideas, or at least that is what I’ve heard. I never went to art school, but I know it’s not the education that makes you an artist. It is the makings you birth, and keep birthing.

So for the past maybe 15 years I have been exploring all things creative to learn more about what I like myself. And every time I take a break from being constantly creative, I loose that sweet feeling of being in the right place at the right time. My flow.

My solution, and advice to myself is to: keep being creative as often as you can.

iHanna Quote: To feel like an artist you need to make art

Make art, make more art, make it for yourself.
