The simplest questions are the most profound. Where were you born? Where is your home? Where are you going? What are you doing? Think about these once in a while and watch your answers change.

Home + comfort art journal spread

I have longed for a place of my own for a long time now. In June I drew a house in my art journal with me living at the top floor. I wrote:

Home is where my heart is…

And I believe that is true. To me a home is important, very important. You might think that that is true for everyone, but it is not. I know quite a few people that prioritize other things more than a comfortable home, a cozy, safe, beautiful home. All that is important to me though. It is important on many levels. Maybe it’s a nesting thing, but also:

  • I like making life pretty and decorating the rooms where I live
  • I love repainting furniture and to recycle thrifted finds
  • I need a place for my desk, somewhere where I can create my art
  • I love rearranging my books, boxes, things and organizing my stashes
  • I enjoy silence and my own company
  • I feel safe and happy when I have a home to come home to…
  • plus, I’m the kind of girl that like to stay at home
  • many of my favorite activities are best done at home, alone

I think many of you agree on and understand the importance of a home, right? If you’ve ever been without a home of your own you understand this even better!

Home is where my heart is

Last weekend I moved to a new home. This is big for me, a huge change and one that makes me really happy. Right now I am in transition and that part has its ups and downs and challenges, but on the whole I am happy about my new rather small apartment.

A view of ones own

When I did this art journal page I had no idea I was as close to finding a home as I was. And the funny part is, my new apartment is just under the roof, on the top floor! The little drawing feels like a presentiment. Maybe it was serendipitous, but in a very nice way. The apartment has slanted walls and a roof window in the bathroom! Outside the building there are lots of rose bushes in bloom right now…

...and roses growing outside

Coming up this autumn I probably will have a few posts on decorating a home, because that is what’s on my mind right now. Fluffing the pillows, emptying the boxes. Living in my new home. I thought it would never happen, but it did, I just had to wait a long time before it was “time”.

Next: I will be drawing myself bathing in banknotes! ;-)
