Found Faces

Do you ever notice unexpected faces in your surrounding?
If not, you will after reading this super cute photography book called Found Faces.

I really love this book! It’s filled to the brim with faces that jumps at you (in a friendly way!), or sometimes slowly emerges as you find eyes and then maybe… is that a nose? Then you see the big smile and you just have to smile back, even though it’s not a real face but an inanimate object! We are wired like that, and the element of surprise is intriguing.

I find this book inspiring, playful, fun and well designed. The photos are taken by over ninety photographers from twenty six different countries.

I also like that not every face is in-your-face obvious
but instead a gift from the photographer that saw it and captured it. This idea of “found faces” really makes me want to look for faces everywhere. I’ve already been on several face-hunting excursions, but they are not always easy to spot. After looking through the book I kind of expected to see them everywhere.

These are my first finds, from the gym, this week:

How to find faces

Start by opening your eyes and mind. Then you should be looking for a pair of eyes, then see if there is a mouth, or a nose or both. Then snap a photo and share it! It’s easy, quite addictive and a super creative activity (though it slows you down as you will need to look closely on things you never noticed before)!

Where to look? Take a walk and bring your camera. Start looking at cars and door posts, all kinds of machines are great, as is hand bags, trees, trash cans and kitchen utensils. :-)

I will keep looking for sure!

When you pay attention to your surroundings you may just see something unexpected!

Yup, it’s a super cool photography book. It was sent to me for review by Lark Books who has a series of books called Focus: * Your World, Your Images. You can also check out Focus: Love (found hearts), Focus: Passages (beautiful doors) and Focus: Letters, though I think the coolest must be Found Faces!

* There is also a Found faces flickr group that you must check out, lots of inspiration there! Let me know what you find/see! :-)

* Feel free to check out my previous book reviews too.
