I’ve sewn a princess crown in fabric!

Detail of crown

I just wanted to.

Prinsesskrona

I don’t know where or when I will be wearing it, if ever, but I looove it! It looks great on my head, standing on a shelf or hanging for the crystal chandelier! It’s a piece of art, do I need to explain it further? Maybe.

Princess crown - detail

I'm a princessMy aunt said when she saw me making it:
- What is it? What’s it for?
And I didn’t have a good answer. If you don’t get it, you just don’t. It’s like asking why people paint art - you can’t eat it, right? You can’t really do anything with it. But for the artist it still something that has to be created. It asks to be made and there is no way to avoid making it. There is no way to escape once you unleashed the force of creativity! You might question it, but you have to go with the flow, listen to the material and follow through on your crazy ideas!

(There is a thin line between crazy people and artists, you know? :-)

You will eventually become a Princess in the Kingdom of Creativity, where love and passion rules, if you proceed long enough. I’m a princess here since long. Are you? Only you can decide if you want a piece of the cake, and to what level you want to join. You can choose to only make useful stuff, like mittens and socks, but you can also go beyond that and try to make something just because you want to experiment with the material. If you’re sensitive enough you will feel what it wants to become.

Close your eyes, breath in, breath out. Focus and relax. Yes it might sound like a contradiction to both relax and focus, but if you’ve experienced creativity you know what I mean!

Doodle in your sketchbook, play with your tools, be inspired by others and find your own creativity. It’s within you already - I just know it. Don’t let your inner critic get to you! You can draw, you can start an art journal, you can sew something, you can learn the other stuff later! Just start, become a princess of Creativity, because princesses of Creativity have more fun! ;-)

It was fun making it, you know? That’s my answer to why do it. It makes me happy! I loved to design it and to sew all those small glittery things to the surface! I had fun with the process and also fun while editing these images in photoshop. I might have to post more self portraits another time.

I really want to make more crowns to sell, but I don’t know if anyone would like a princess crown in their life? What do you think, should I make some for my etsy shop in time for Christmas?

You’re so damn right! That is exactly why we make art/write/create, it “asks be made and there is no way to avoid making it.”

Underbart skrivet! Det går rakt in i mitt förstenade kreativa hjärta. Tack! Jag ska genast försöka besegra draken och inta min kreativ tron.

    That is one gorgeous crown!

I feel exactly the same way about creating. I don’t do it to have something useful or that will bring food on the table. I create because I have to. I make paintings and drawings and all that other stuff that has no other purpose other than just being there, created by me, because I have to. If I don’t create, it’s like I’m not breathing right.

You should wear your crown to write the rest of your Nano novel!

    *hugs*
    Sophie

Aww, it’s cute!! I like all the little sequins. If I were a princess, I would insist on sequins.

You are a very wise and thoughtful princess too! I have to admit that I am one of those people that questions why we make art..yet still create. I find that I always have an excuse. I love ATCs because one collects them. (That’s doing something with them right?) Another reason I like to give on why I create art is because it’s cheaper than therapy! =cD

Oooh…and I agree with Sharon. Smilla must have a little kitty princess crown too! We love Smilla. You know, she really needs an official fan club!

You just put it right. If something has to be made it will force you to make it. The idea, crazy, useful or not does not let you escape with any excuses. You can’t eat it OK but you can LOOK at it, enjoy the result of the flow. It’s for your health!

Keep up and stay happy :)

But Hanna, you’re 1/3 artist, 1/3 crazy person and 1/3 princess. That’s why you’re so lovely and fun.

  22. on 25 Nov 2007 at 16:46 Raisa

Åh, jag tänker att det är precis sånadär som dels prinsess-själade vuxna vill ha eller kanske ge till sina barn och som dessutom skulle kunna stå på en byrå i ett inrednings-reportage. (= sell sell!)

  23. on 25 Nov 2007 at 17:26 Kajsa

I’m sure people would like to buy your crowns! It is beautiful! I feel exactly like you about being creative! I used to think I couldn’t draw, now I make a living on my doodles ;-)

i completely agree with you… there are so many times i feel i have to explain everything i do in a creative way and why do i do them!! “because i needed/wanted to” doesn’t seem to make some people understand :/ anyway, love love love your crown :)

I wanted to let you know that you inspired me to make a crown for my mother for her birthday. It ended up rather different from yours (I think I should have used more sequins), but thanks so much for the inspiration!

If you’d like to see mine (and read all about my trials and tribulations while making it), you can read my blog post here:

Thank you again for the inspiration. Not just on this project, but every day.
